Projektinformationen

The project aims at developing concepts for a structured doctoral programme in the School of Humanities and Social Sciences of Nazarbayev University, Astana, Kazakhstan (SHSS), in partnership with Humboldt University, Berlin, Germany. SHSS currently runs undergraduate and MA programmes, and is expected to introduce its first doctoral programmes between 2018 and 2020. Humboldt University is a world leader in the Humanities and Social Sciences with a particularly strong expertise in Central Asian Studies, an area in which the two universities are already collaborating, and which is expected to form the focus of SHSS's future doctoral programmes. The Humboldt partners have ample experience with structured PhD programmes as well. The preparatory project shall allow key faculties from the two universities to visit each other's institutions, consult with those who will be teaching and supervising on the programmes, and observe good practice and institutional constraints in both places. The aim is to establish the necessary organizational and administrative framework that would enable the universities to submit a joint bid for funding to support a structured doctoral programme when the Volkswagen Stiftung publishes its call in the winter of 2016-17.
