Projektinformationen

In the first part of the process, 12 qualified doctoral students from preselected science fields will be co-supervised by UGOE and ISU in a state-of-the-art framework entitled the Lehmann-Haupt International Doctoral Program. Cotutelle Agreements between the partners will include clear study, skills-training and mobility plans for each student. The scholarship holders and their supervisors will linked by an overarching interdisciplinary curriculum, monitored at the central level by UGOE and ISU. The program is designed to introduce new services for doctoral education at ISU, improve the structures for the PhD qualification phase, provide quality assurance measures and generate a new academic environment for the PhD qualification stage. In a second part of the process, ISU intends to set up and finance the ISU International Doctoral School (IDS). The conceptual development and early operation of the IDS will occur with input from UGOE experts during the project. By 2022, the IDS will be fully functioning as an umbrella institution for all doctoral students at ISU, cementing the structures and facilities introduced and tested in the LEHMANN-HAUPT PROGRAM. It is to become a model for modern, structured and effective doctoral education, according to best-practice quality assurance standards. It will safeguard a common doctoral education agenda with specific rules and guidelines, including careful and transparent selection as well as institutionalized responsibility for monitoring and good supervision. The IDS will offer elementary interdisciplinary training, financial support and services (mentoring, counselling). It will introduce measures to foster academic independence, exchange and international networking, inspiring creativity and leadership. State-of-the-art supervision and transferable skills training, scientific and professional network building, and sustained outreach to the private and public local and international sectors and their actors will contribute to a durable model of PhD education.
