Projektinformationen
Working Utopias researches artist-run organizations to examine collaboration under conditions of highly individualized work. It thereby aims at re-examining modes of operation and subjectivities of artists with regard to their social rather than individual dimension. It also seeks to negotiate the potential of these organizing practices for developing utopian imaginaries based on solidarity that could become widely adopted by a broader audience of cultural workers. For this, we carry out 15-months on-site research at 4 different organizations led by artists followed by a 3-months knowledge lab, where we experimentally analyze the collected data and explore forms of representation. In a 10 days journey departing in Berlin ending at Zeppelin University in Friedrichshafen, we play back our results to representatives of the organizations under scrutiny and ask them to negotiate their everyday organization practices with regard to the potential of creating utopian imaginaries. The project ends with a 5-months documentation phase that leads to a publication.
