Projektinformationen
Our idea has two interrelated objectives: not only to convey knowledge about medical ethics to a wider audience, but beyond that to facilitate an open and mutually enriching debate on the moral boundaries of germline modification. This would also contribute to building new forms of engagement processes for the debate on genome editing. Medical ethics are supremely placed to mediate the differences between the sciences and the everyday perspectives of the public and to empower all interested parties to establish a common ground for tackling essential questions. Building on extensive research on concepts of health/disease and therapy/enhancement, our role as mediators is to map the field and define a framework within which genome editing can be approached by different target groups in different ways. Because the framework will be the same for all formats, this approach will allow us to draw conclusions about both the formats and the respective target groups. Thereby, the formats also fulfill different objectives of science communication: making aware, informing, involving. We will use the Museum für Naturkunde (Museum of Natural Science) in Berlin as the hub for this endeavor. Here an audience can be encountered that is different from those who already have shown a long-standing interest for this specific topic.
