Projektinformationen

Because of their uniqueness in the university landscape of Germany and Central Europe, Caucasus Studies play a special role at the University of Jena. The same applies to the MA and BA programs in Caucasus Studies. Caucasus Studies are interdisciplinary and located at the interface of linguistics, literary studies and social sciences such as political science, history, cultural studies, and anthropology. Therefore, both in teaching and research different disciplines must be covered. The current professor, Diana Forker, can only partially accomplish this task due to her scientific profile (linguistics, linguistic anthropology with a focus on the North Caucasus). The aim of the proposal is to fill this gap by improving and expanding cooperation with the social sciences (in particular political science / late modern history) and therefore to fully establish Caucasian Studies as area studies at the University of Jena. The University of Jena has agreed to take over the permanent funding of a post doc position after the three years of the project duration. The expertise of the post doc will be complementary to the professorship in political science and/or history and he/she will have a regional focus on the South Caucasus.
