In the "new" Afghanistan under Taliban rule, scholars and journalists are under general suspicion due to their academic and civil society engagement. In view of the past cooperation with the Center for Development Communication (EC4SC) at Leipzig University they even belong to the particularly endangered group of people - their lives are directly threatened. Based on these circumstances, the EC4SC intends to establish a program that will - provide a scientific home for scientists from Afghanistan for at least two years. - continue the joint research. - bundle and use the competences of the scientists to understand the recent development in Afghanistan from a communication science perspective and to derive options for action. - contribute to maintaining the approaches to university research and teaching that have emerged in Afghanistan in recent years. - develop models and formats to continue to reach out to the Afghan public. - enable the scientists with targeted measures to integrate themselves into the German academic landscape beyond the project period. - be a contact point for other exiled scientists, journalists and activists and thus to be available to the public in Germany as a body of experts. The participants will be academics who have held professorships or lectureships in Afghanistan in the past, most of whom have also worked as journalists, and whose perspectives combine media studies, communication studies, political science, sociology and practical journalism.
