The project investigates the (re)production of wealth in an intergenerational context on the basis of family interviews. This perspective brings three advantages. First, it enables a temporal view of wealth by looking at processes of status dynamics. Second, wealth is captured not only as the economic situation of individuals, but also as a field of social relations. In this way, the focus is also on attitudes about society that frame behaviors, habitualized forms of self-positioning, and strategies of families that guide and promote status reproduction. Third, different levels are linked of social relations that influence the reproduction of wealth, including individual resources, family contexts, and social structures. Here also situational contexts (e.g., of a business start-up or inheritance) and socioeconomic transformation processes are considered.
