Violence in East and West - Towards an Integrated History of the 20th Century Europe

Initiative: Momentum - Förderung für Erstberufene
Bewilligung: 11.04.2023
Laufzeit: 4 Jahre

Projektinformationen

The aim of this Momentum concept is to promote an integrated history of 20th century Europe that overcomes Cold War divisions and takes violence as a common European experience. Currently Eastern European history remains underrepresented in most history curricula. The collaborative research that is the goal of this project will enable the unravelling of hidden research problems and capture more subtly Eastern Europe's specificities regarding 20th century violence. The Konstanz Chair of European History will strategically be turned into a hub of systematic exchange between scholars working on similar subjects within the history of violence from different regions. A postdoc will coordinate the project and at the same time start to pursue first research questions of the hub. A main component of the project is the setting up of a fellowship programme that includes junior and senior researchers who will be appointed through an open call. They will research at the hub and benefit from (existing) academic co-operations within Konstanz and internationally.
