Projektinformationen
The proposed transdisciplinary task force - consisting of researchers from Fachhochschule Potsdam, Bezalel Academy and the Israel Democracy Institute - endeavors to bridge a knowledge gap concerning immersive technologies in smart cities. We intend to address the "phygital" realm in public urban spaces not just from an academic lens but from a policy-relevant angle in an innovative way by using design methodologies. We are crafting a pioneering blueprint by fusing legal studies with diverse design disciplines. Inspired by the GDPR's emphasis on privacy by design, our methodology underscores the importance of deeply understanding the "translation" process that is needed in order to design technology that mirrors societal values. Design methodologies will assist us in better facilitating policy decisions, and further influencing public discourse. We consider data visualization, interface design and speculative design as core methodologies for this proposal. Design methodologies that include a co-design process allow designers and stakeholders to explore, illustrate, and describe a problem space that is unique and still unknown. Thus, using such methodologies we wish to examine how a policy proposal shapes public spaces and citizens' behavior and how two different locations like Berlin and Jerusalem will differ in terms of opinions, debates, and design proposals.
