Initiative: Außergewöhnliches
Bewilligung: 25.06.2004
Laufzeit: 3 Jahre

Projektinformationen

In order to improve the protection of society from sexual offences this research project will investigate the effectiveness of therapeu- tic interventions to prevent sexual abuse within a particular group. The project will target child molesters unknown to the justice system, and men who fear to sooner or later act upon their sexual impulses i. e. potential offenders (i. e. "dunkelfeld" molesters). A media cam- paign will be used to encourage these persons to contact the Institute for Sexual Science and Sexual Medicine, Charte Hospital. Each peron fitting the intake criteria will be assessed using a battery of psy- chometric instruments, a sexological interview and a criminal history record check. Each participant will be randomly allocated to a stan- dardized group treatment, a standardized individual treatment or a waiting list control. Treatment effectiveness will be assessed at post-treatment and after a first follow-up period of 12 months. With this study important information about the usefulness and required structure of specific programs for treating dunkelfeld molesters with- in the German health system will be obtained which will be relevant for both scientists and society in general.
