Projektinformationen
This project focuses on EU efforts against organized crime in the Western Balkans. Human trafficking, the illicit drug trade, the black market in small arms, and other illicit activities have a negative impact on the security of current EU member states. In the Western Balkans, crime is a major challenge to peace and democracy. Crime control has therefore evolved into a central component of the EU's Foreign and Security Policy (EFSP) in the region. In this project, Cornelius Friesendorf, who has written his doctorate on United States foreign drug control policies, examines the various obstacles to EU foreign crime control. The project helps to expand the ontology of International Relations and EFSP research. Moreover, it is politically relevant by suggesting ways of improving EU strategies against one of the major problems of the post-Cold War world: organized crime.
