Projektinformationen

The aim of the Prevention Project Dunkelfeld (PPD) is to improve child protection by preventing child sexual abuse. For this purpose a research project was designed in which a respective treatment program was to be developed and evaluated. The target group consisted of men who had not yet sexually abused a child but feared they could do so, men who had sexually abused a child but were unknown to the justice system and feared to re-offend as well as men with a respective criminal record who feared to re-offend- provided they were no longer under the supervision of the justice system. Potential participants were reached via an extensive media campaign and encouraged to contact the research team.Based an the results of the first funding phase it can be ascertained that a sizeable proportion of potential child abusers can be reached by the media campaign; participants seek help to remain (re-)offence free and are motivated to participate in treatment. In the second funding phase research will focus on strategies to improve motivation to change with respect to direct child sexual abuse as well as child pornography abuse. Regarding the consumption of child pornography and its related variables analysis of data will help to identify predictors and ultimately help to establish preventive strategies against child pornography abuse.
