Projektinformationen
Due to the problem of resistency of many bacteria against common antibiotics, there is a strong need for the development of new chemical entities and their biological evaluation as new antimicrobial agents. The goal of the present project is to combine the structural features of pharmacologically active fluorinated N-heterocycles (indoles, purines, purine isosters, etc.) and amino acids and peptides. In this context, we will develop an efficient synthesis of enantiomerically pure heterocyclic fluorinated non-proteinogenic amino acids and their peptides which contain pharmacologically relevant fluorinated nitrogen heterocycles at the side-chain. Subsequently, the biological evaluation (especially the antimicrobial and antiviral screening) of the target molecules will be studied. A very important aspect of this partnership project is to support young scientists at YSU and at URO in their research and contribute to their scientific development on an international level. The project will be an important step to establish a center of excellence in organic chemistry at YSU in the near future.
