Projektinformationen
There is widespread consensus that Dietrich Bonhoeffer was one of the most important religious voices of the twentieth century. He developed that voice, in part, through a sustained conversation with Martin Luther. Despite Bonhoeffer's lifelong engagement with Luther's work, there has been no scholarly monograph dedicated to his intellectual relationship to Luther. DeJonge argues that Bonhoeffer's thinking was, and should be interpreted as, Lutheran which challenges mainstream (especially American) Bonhoeffer scholarship, where Luther's importance has been acknowledged in general but has not carried enough interpretive weight. And the book will contribute to Luther-reception scholarship, which has not taken interest in Bonhoeffer because he little influenced theological discussion until after his death, and even then not as a Luther interpreter. But the enduring scholarly interest in Bonhoeffer and the demonstrable Lutheran character of his thinking require integrating him into the history of Luther interpretation.
