Projektinformationen
This project is structured along two distinctive public policy debates related to the activities of the firms in the extractive industry, whereby one problem is further decomposed into two different analyses. To this end, one paper is devoted to each of the three lines of research. What is common to these distinct lines of research is their focus on corporate social responsibility (CSR). Recognizing the public policy debate, this study proceeds to empirically answer these questions. What are the levels of CSR activities among businesses in Ghana? What are the corporate strategic approaches to CSR? Is there any link or relationship between CSR and Corporate Governance (CG)? What are the benefits of the firm's CSR activities? Is CSR of firms in extractive industry sustainable? The current study investigates and analyses corporate strategy, policy and governance and sustainability of CSR. Employing the stakeholder theory, this project aims at investigating and analysing the strategy, policy, governance and implications of CSR of firms in the extractive sector. In light of this, three distinct research papers will be undertaken:The research paper I is the starting point of this project and it contains the investigation of firms' CSR strategies and governance and the analysis of the motives that drive CSR in the extractive industry. Paper II will build upon the initial findings of paper I and extend the analysis of CSR to its significance, benefits and performance. In this regard, paper II contains an empirical investigation of the relationship between CSR, corporate governance and firm performance. Paper III will employ a different approach to analysing sustainability of CSR by focusing on how firms in the extractive industry finance their CSR.
